Abstract

Varietal indices and per se performance were calculated based on discriminant function for seed yield and its attributing traits in 38 genotypes of kabuli chickpea. The results revealed that genotypes GLK 22094, CSJK 21, Phule G 95333, BGD 1035 and HK 00304 exhibited high index value for seed yield, where as an overall observations of selection criteria (both varietal indices and mean performance basis) genotypes viz. GLK 22094, CSJK 21 and HK 00304 appeared promising genotypes based on their phenotypic and genetic merits performance. Implication of varietal indices and mean performance for seed yield in relation to kabuli chickpea breeding programme have been discussed.
