Abstract

Intercropping in sorghum cv. CSH 5 of green gram [Vigna radiata], cowpeas and pigeonpeas in 3 different sowing patterns was studied during 1978-80 under supplementary irrigation systems. With below normal rainfall (1978-9) a paired row system increased sorghum production by about 24%, whereas under good rainfall conditions the sowing patterns did not show any difference. The sorghum/pigeonpeas combination increased net returns by 72% compared with pure sorghum. The intercropping was beneficial under adverse climatic conditions
