Abstract

Natural pasture dominated by Sorghum halepense or Andropogon contortus was cut at the preflowering stage and given to appetite to sheep for 27 days. Values, with digestibility in parentheses, were DM 29.5 (49) and 38.5 (47) and in DM, crude protein (CP) 5.9 (43) and 4.4 (29), ether extract 1.2 (42) and 1.6 (42), fibre 34.9 (63) and 39.1 (63), nitrogen-free extract 51.4 (53) and 47.7 (40), and total digestible nutrients (TDN) 55.8 and 47.4, respectively. Daily intakes 100 kg bodyweight were DM 2.36 and 1.82 kg, digestible CP 59 and 21 g and TDN 1.31 and 0.86 kg. Daily N balances were +0.63 and -1.55 g
