Abstract

Storage seed proteins of Pant A 134, UPAS 120, ICPL 84023 and of Cajanus scarabaeoides wild species and their hybrids were analysed by SDS-PAGE. The protein banding patterns in twenty four F4 progenies of three interspecific hybrids and their parents were studied for variability in protein band expression. In all twenty six protein bands were identified ranging from 98.0 to 11.0 kD. The inter varietal differences were clearly expressed in parents ranging from UPAS 120 (10) to ICPL 84023 (7) bands. The interprogeny differences were clearly seen in respect of number, length and intensity of polypeptide bands of the protein. In all twenty six protein bands of different Rm values were identified. The similarity index of hybrids with C. scarabaeoides ranged from 33.33% to 75.75%. In general bands at 92.5, 71.5, 31.5 and 26 kD were common in parents as well as hybrids.
