Abstract

The effect of parasitism by Striga asiatica on the growth and yield of sorghum was similar in the 2 cvs. Swarna and CSH-1. Striga parasitism caused an increase in the relative water content, free proline and nitrate reductase activity in sorghum but reduced the chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rate. Striga parasitism reduced the wt. of grain/ear of sorghum by 40%
