Abstract

In a field experiment, atrazine at 1 kg/ha applied pre-em. combined with 1 [hand-]weeding and 1 hoeing 6 weeks after sowing gave a yield of 16.07 q/ha while the recommended practice of 2 weedings + 2 hoeings at 3 and 6 weeks gave 10.56 q/ha and no weeding gave 8.98 q/ha. Sorghum kept free from weeds for 40 days after sowing yielded 15.52 q/ha and a treatment of atrazine at 1 kg/ha pre-em. followed by 2,4-D-sodium at 1 kg/ha at 6 weeks gave 14.08 q/ha. The treatment that gave the highest yield also gave the best additional net income of Rs. 686/ha over the untreated control
