Abstract

Implementation of a strip cropping plan to reduce severe erosion on self-mulching black soils is described. Bands of summer and winter crops were grown across the flow of water to keep the runoff widespread and reduce its velocity. In the 1st yr winter wheat and barley were sown followed in the summer by sorghum, sunflower and maize. A residual flow waterway was constructed as a drain for wet yr.
