Abstract

Experiments are presented in which the planting geometry of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), the compatibility of different intercrops, and the possible beneficial effect of a legume intercrop on the nonlegume base crop are described. Growing sorghum in paired rows of 30/60 cm does not reduce yield when compared to uniform rows of 45 cm, and the space created by paired-row patterns enhances legume intercrop yield. A list of compatible intercrops for different locations is given. Some beneficial effects of legume intercrops on sorghum yield are also reported
