Abstract

Developments in fertilizer use and soil fertility research in India over the period 1955-1980 are summarized. The efficient application and subsequent fate of N, P and K have been extensively studied. Zn deficiency is now known to occur over a wide area, and S is also assuming importance in some situations. Patterns of current fertilizer consumption over the country are indicated
