Abstract
In trials in the kharif [monsoon] season of 1973 with sorghum hybrid CSH-1 grown at a density of 222 000-666 000 plants/ha and given 50-200 kg N/ha, increasing the N rate from 50 to 150 kg/ha increased the grain yield from 6.18 to 8.57 t/ha, grain protein content from 7.53 to 8.95% and N uptake from 117.6 to 196.5 kg/ha; these values were not further increased with 200 kg N/ha. The opt. N rate was 186.3 kg/ha. Increasing the density from 222 000 to 666 000 plants/ha increased the yields from 7.03 to 8.36 t/ha and N uptake from 158.7 to 186.2 kg/ha, but decreased the protein content from 9.01 to 8.12%
