Abstract
Data on genetic variances for ratoon tiller regrowth in Sorghum bicolor were obtained from crosses involving senescent and nonsenescent lines. Nonsenescence took the form of a tendency to perennial habit. The following generations were examined: Psen, Pns, F1, F2, BCsen and BCns. Ratoon tiller production was measured to assess nonsenescence, which was quantitatively inherited, with additive genetic effects. It is recommended that selection for vigorous ratoon growth should be based on tiller counts after six weeks of regrowth. Number of ratoon tillers appeared to be controlled by one major factor or chromosome segment
