Abstract
In this study carried out on sandy soil low in OM in the Piedmont region, early and late-sown sorghum hybrids were compared when double-cropped after a winter annual legume. Crimson clover was sown in Sept. and ploughed in as a green crop in April. 7 sorghum hybrids were sown 35 and 53 days after the clover was ploughed in and no fertilizer N was applied at any time. Av. grain yields were 8.1, and 7.5 t/ha for the early and late sowings, resp., and differences reached significance only in cv. DeKalb BR-54; the highest yielding cv. was MK 266 (9.3 and 8.8 t/ha)
