Abstract
A study was carried out to investigate the potential for ratoon cropping (2 grain harvests from 1 sowing) of several USA sorghum hybrids and to ascertain which maturity group would be the best to use in such a harvesting system in the humid SE USA. 21 sorghum hybrids, grouped according to their relative maturity were sown at 2 locations in 1978. The medium maturity group of hybrids outyielded the early group by 2.70 t/ha and the late group by 1.90 t/ha. The medium-maturity hybrids were superior in all yield and yield components measured. Funk's G-522 was the best hybrid evaluated in the study for combined grain yields in the ratoon double-cropping scheme
