Abstract
During the 1969-70 kharif season, mutants isolated from the M2 and M3 of gamma -irradiated GM1-5 were tested for height, flowering date and yield in 18 small-scale trials. Data given for 20 mutants show that, while the majority were shorter than the parent, the range of height was 75.51-269.73 cm. Either reduced number or reduced length of internodes was responsible for dwarfness in most cases. All the mutants were earlier than the parent, flowering in 77-79 days compared with 100. Four of the mutants were used as parents in a hybridization programme and the hybrids were tested at four sites. The hybrid 2219A X 14-5-17-12 was the highest yielder. It was 10 days earlier than CSH1 and had good grain characters
