Abstract

In Coimbatore, India, the new sorghum cv. CO 23 gave av. grain yields of 4.91 t/ha with irrigation at 26 locations during 4 yr and 2.7 t under rain-fed conditions at 53 locations and outyielded the standard cv. CO 21 by 14.4 and 17.4% resp. In another trial, CO 23 gave yields of 4.12 t/ha in the main crop and 3 t in the ratoon crop, compared with 3.75 and 2.74 t, resp., in CO 21. The grains of CO 23 contained 10.95% protein and 5.5, 3.9 and 3.3% leucine, lysine and isoleucine, resp., in the protein.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:The new sorghum cv.
