Abstract
Four single plants of the apomictic form R473 were emasculated one day before anthesis and each was dusted with pollen from four individual plants of (WS X R473)-27. Grain set in the different crosses was 10-30%. The progenies contained hybrids only, maternal forms only or different proportions of hybrids and maternal forms. The maternal forms, which resulted from apomixis, flowered later, had a more compact panicle and were taller than the hybrids. It is concluded that, unless R473 is heterozygous, the maternal forms could be the products not only of pseudogamous diplospory and apospory, but also of indirect diplospory
