Abstract

The trisomic was derived from a cross of 2 translocation stocks obtained following γ irradiation. Compared with the diploid, the trisomic is semidwarf, with reductions in size of the leaves, the spike and the grains; it is of a dark-green colour. Pollen fertility of trisomic and diploid was 94.4%. Cytological studies revealed that the most frequent (32.14%) metaphase configuration was a septavalent chain plus 4 bivalents; rings of 4 or 6 chromosomes were absent. It is concluded that the trisomic is the result of a missing chromosome which is compensated for by 2 tertiary chromosomes
