Abstract

Exposure of panicles of 5 E. coracana cv. to 14CO2 showed that the glumes fixed higher activity than the grains or rachis; the activity was high 10 days after anthesis (DAA) and decreased considerably 20 DAA. The fixation of 14CO2 in glumes and grains and its translocation from glumes to grains were significantly higher in long-glumed cv. than in normal-glumed cv. The 14C activity in the rachis immediately and 24 h after exposure to 14CO2 was almost similar, suggesting that photosynthates are translocated mainly from glumes to grains
