Abstract
Rainfed trials with several Pennisetum americanum cv. in 1980-2 showed that crops sown with the onset of monsoon rains gave significantly higher grain yields than when sown 10 or 20 days later. Yields in rows 45 cm apart were the highest at a spacing of 10 cm between plants (222 000 plants/ha) followed by 12.5 (177 000 plants) and 15 cm (133 000 plants). PSB 8 gave significantly higher yield than DC 3 or WC-C75
