Abstract
The population studied was JFB801. Two cycles of mass selection (3.3% selection intensity) increased forage yield/plant, stem thickness and tiller number/plant by 21.34, 9.60 and 8.98%, respectively, while one cycle of visual S1 progeny selection (3.1% selection intensity) increased forage yield/plant, leaf breadth and tiller number/plant by 11.04, 13.39 and 15.57%, respectively. Both methods of selection significantly improved the correlation of forage yield with stem thickness and tiller number
