Abstract
Progress made in the identification of the sex pheromones of lepidopterous stem-borers and the use of these pheromones in crop protection is reviewed. Case histories for Ostrinia nubilalis (Hb.) (a pest of maize) and Chilo suppressalis (Wlk.) (a pest of maize, sorghum, sugar-cane and rice) are considered in detail to illustrate the problems encountered in applying sex pheromones to population monitoring, mass trapping and mating disruption
