Abstract
Rice, jowar and groundnut constitute more than 55% of the total cropped area in Andhra Pradesh and more than 85% of the total irrigated area. The total area and total irrigated area under these three crops increased between 1966/67 and 1975/76. The growth in the irrigated area was greater than the growth in total area. The area irrigated by tanks is declining while the area irrigated by wells is increasing rapidly. Of the three crops, groundnuts showed the highest growth rates in net area, irrigated area, production and productivity. Jowar showed maximum growth rate in price and negative growth in irrigated area
