Abstract

Sorghum, cv. Serena, Mbangara and Lulu, containing, respectively, tannin 1.3, 0.7 and 0.5% in grain DM, was treated with 3.75% Magadi soda, Na2CO3NaHCO3.2H2O, for 3 days. Treatment of cv. Serena and Mbangara increased digestibility of crude protein, carbohydrate and energy for rats and increased biological value from 44.2 to 47.1 and from 39.1 to 44.6%, respectively, whereas net protein utilization increased, from 34.9 to 40.2%, in Mbangara only and cv. Lulu was not affected by treatment
