Abstract

In trials with maize, sorghum, cowpea, guar [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba] and soyabean grown in either pure stand or 2-component legume/non-legume mixtures in 1973-5, fresh fodder and DM yields were higher in mixtures than in pure stands. Maize/cowpea mixtures gave the highest av. yields of 36.3 t fodder, 8.89 t DM and 894 kg CP/ha. Data on CP contents of crops in pure and mixed stands are given. Maize/cowpea and sorghum/cowpea mixtures produced balanced ration fodders
