Abstract
P. hysterophorus, which reached Ujjain only a few years ago, has spread throughout the fields of the area, particularly along the banks of the river Kshipra, gaining dominance and eliminating its associates probably through an allelopathic effect. It was found that the aqueous extracts from its different parts exhibit a significant inhibition on the germination of seeds and growth of seedlings of maize, jowar (Sorghum vulgare [= S. bicolor]) and arhar (Cajanus cajan). Extracts of the leaves and inflorescences caused more inhibition than extracts of the roots and stems. However, at lower concn. the inhibition was reduced in every case. From summary
