Abstract
The evaluation of the adequacy of a soil resource inventory (SRI) can be summarized by four questions. 1. Is the soils map legible, and can it legibly represent the smallest land area of interest to the user? 2. Does it convey sufficient information on the properties of the land? 3. Can points and areas be located accurately on the ground or in the map? 4. How reliable is the map, and is it a good representation of the actual soilscape? These questions are covered in chapters on 1. map scale and texture, 2. map legend and SRI report, 3. base map quality and 4. ground truth, which are presented as a sequence of steps to be followed when evaluating an SRI
