Abstract
Among the reports that proved especially useful in discussing livestock technical constraints, technical elements of a livestock improvement strategy, and implementation procedures were: The Role of Sheep and Goats in Agricultural Development (Winrock International 1976); Improving Ruminant Livestock Production on Small Holdings (Agricultural Development Council 1976); The Role of Animals in the World Food Situation (Rockefeller Foundation 1975); Forages, Ruminant Livestock and Food (Hodgson 1976); Ruminant Livestock Research and Development (Byerly 1977); Objectives and Constraints of Ruminant Livestock Production (Scoville and Sarhan 1978); and Integrated Crop and Animal Production (McDowell and Hildebrand 1980). General strategies and reviews that were useful for specific geographic regions were: A Conceptual Framewark for the Evaluation of Livestock Production Development Projects and Programs in sub-Sahara West Africa (Ferguson and Sleeper 1971j), Small Ruminant Production Systems in the Humid Tropics (ILCA 1979), and A Workshop on Pastoralism and African Livestock Development sponsored in L9?9 by USAID and the Institute for Developmental Anthropology.
