Abstract

Reviews research projects in Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand to field test a PVC handpump under various environmental conditions and levels of technical sophistication with different user groups. The PVC pump demonstrated that it holds considerable potential for use at the village level; it can be made locally at reasonable cost and is easily repaired. However, there are operational limitations and the well in use must be properly developed
