Abstract
The InternationalBoard for Plant Genetic Resources (IBPGR)
is an autonomous, international, scientific organization
urder the aegis of the Consultative Group on Internatio.ial
Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The 1BPGR, which was establislhed by the CGIAR in 1.9 7d, i. composed of its Chairman and 15 members; its Executive Secretariat is provided by the Food and AgricultzraZ Organization of the United Nations. The basic function of the IBPGP,, as defined by the Consultative Group, is to prowiote an international network of genetic resources centres to flrther the collection, conservation, documentation, evaluation and use of plant gerinplasm and thereby contribute to raising the standard of living and welfare of people throughout tle t'orld. The Consultative Group mobilizes financial support fi'orm it, me,mzers to meet the budgetary requirements of the Board
