Abstract

Cercospora canescens, a leaf spotting pathogen of urdbean (Vigna mungo) and mung bean, was isolated from urdbean on carrot decoction agar and V8 media. The C. canescens toxin was isolated from the culture medium through a standard procedure. The effect of the pathogen toxin (at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 ppm) including culture filtrates on seed germination, and root and shoot length of both the pulse crops was studied. Both culture filtrates and toxin were found inhibitory to seed germination and seedling growth.
