Abstract

A water balance and crop simulation model (PADI-WATER) was developed to predict the yields of the drought- prone second rainfed wetland rice crop in Iloilo Province, Philippines. The model was developed from data collected from 2 years of planting date trials in that province. The only data required to operate the completed model were those on daily rainfall. The model was validated against farmers' crop yields for 5 years and against the yields for 4 years from experimental crops grown in the province.
