Abstract
Field experiments were conducted during rabi seasons of 2000-01 and 2001-02 at Main Agricultural Research Station, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad to study various leaf associated characters and their effects on yield in 16 hybrids along with their eight male and two female parents using randomized block design. The hybrids 117A x DRR-2, 117A x DRR-3 and parents DRR-2, DRR-1 and DRR 5 maintained higher leaf area and LAI at both stages and it was maximum at 50 per cent flowering and decreased thereafter. The hybrids, 117A x DRR-2, 117A x DRR-5 and 117A x DRR-3 recorded higher stomatal frequency on abaxial surface than the parents (DRR-2 and DRR-1), which out yielded because of more number of stomata on abaxial surface over other genotypes. The maximum VLF and IVD was recorded by hybrids, 117A x DRR-2, 117A x DRR-3 and 117A x DRR-5 at both stages while among parents, DRR-2 had maximum VLF.
