Abstract

Laboratory and field studies were conducted during 2006 in an attempt to find out alternate insecticidal toxicants to monocrotophos in poison baits against sorghum armyworm, Mythimna separata. The new chemicals tested in the poison baitswere spinosad 45 SC, indoxacarb 14.5 SC, lambda cyhalothrin 5 EC, profenofos 50 EC and chlorpyriphos 20 EC along with thestandard chemical monocrotophos 36 SL, in levels lower than their recommended field dosages. The studies revealed thesuperiority of chlorpyriphos (13.5 and 6.75 dead larvae and adults respectively) as effectivepoison bait followed by profenofos. The efficacy of chlorpyriphos 20EC was comparable to the standard check, monocrotophos 36 SL (13.75 and 8.0 dead larvae and adults).
