Abstract

This reports on the study carried out in 1974-5 and analyzed in 1977 of Small Farmers Development Agencies (SFDA) and Marginal Farmers and Agricultural Labourers (MFAL) schemes in 17 Indian states. The study was designed to examine the nature of programmes under the schemes, aspects of implementation, and effects on small or marginal farmers and agricultural labourers with respect to income and employment. The main sections deal with selection of project areas and beneficiaries, administration of the agencies, credit facilities for target groups, the agencies' programmes, the extent of awareness of project programmes, and conclusions of the study with respect to each of these topics. There are numerous appendices giving statistical data
