Abstract
An attempt was made to study the distribution of dry and wet spells and the pattern of occurrence of rainfall in short intervals of 5-, 10- and 15-day periods. It was found that a truncated geometric distribution suitably defined the distribution of dry and wet spells in short intervals. Expected lengths of spells for various levels of conditional probabilities were obtained through empirical relations. The use of these expected lengths and pattern of occurrence of rainfall in crop planning is shown with the jowar [sorghum] crop for Jalgaon district, Maharashtra.
