Abstract
Field-plot studies at Parbhani, India, with 5 sorghum cultivars showed that carbofuran, an insecticide that gives effective control of shootfly [Atherigona soccata Rond.], has a hormonal effect on the vegetative growth of the crop. Treated plants flowered 3-4 days earlier and had higher yields than untreated ones.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:Carbofuron, used for treating sorghum seed against shoot fly [Atherigona soccata] incidence, increased germination vigour, plant ht. dry wt. of plants and panicles and grains/panicle and accelerated flowering by 3-4 days, compared with plants well protected from shoot fly by applying endrin
