Abstract
Sorghum hybrid H-726 was grown in sol. culture with 17.5, 44, 88, 220 or 440 p.p.m. N. Plant fresh wt. increased rapidly until the dough stage, then the rate decreased. The N uptake followed a similar pattern and N content of plant parts increased with age and with increasing N conc. in the medium. Plant growth and grain yield were highest with 44 p.p.m. N, while total N in the plant or the grain increased at higher N levels. The efficiencies of production of grain yield and grain N were highest at 17.5-88 p.p.m. N and decreased with higher rates of N. Grain CP content increased with increased N level and the opt. level for CP yield and CP content was higher than the opt. level for grain yield
