Abstract
Fe-stress response was studied in growth chamber experiments with several grain sorghum cv. Changes in the pH of the nutrient sol., and the onset and recovery from chlorosis were measured. The plants were grown in Hoagland sol. without Fe, which was supplied as FeEDTA at 2mg/l of sol. Fe stress was induced by transferring the 34-day-old seedlings to an Fe-free sol. Cv. IS-84, IS-3691 and M-35-1 were the most tolerant of Fe stress and CK-60B, KS-5A and KS-5B were the least tolerant. Symptoms of chlorosis appeared later in cv. 370 than in the other cv. Cv. 168, M-35-1 and M-47-3 recovered from chlorosis earlier than the other cv. The development of chlorosis and the reduction in the pH of the nutrient medium by the roots occurred together
