Abstract

Possible interferences by different fungal metabolites were studied in order to optimise fluorescent response enhancement of aflatoxins by addition of cyclodextrins. A number of 10 culture media traditionally used for mold and yeasts culture and their enumeration were added with two concentrations of a methyl derivative of β-cyclodextrin. Representative five aflatoxigenic and four non-aflatoxigenic strains of Aspergillus flavus group along with 23 other Aspergillus species were cultured at 28 °C. In all cases, green-bluish fluorescence over all colonies of the aflatoxigenic strain was observed under UV light, this fluorescence was never displayed by any of the other cultured strains.
