Abstract
The concentrations (% oven-dry material) of N, P, K, Ca and Mg in the different organs at various stages in the growth cycle are presented. The plants were sampled at sites on differing soils and where fertilizer practices varied but the pattern of nutrient concentrations was similar at all sites. The effect of the within-site variability of organ concentration on the choice of a diagnostic tissue is discussed. The changes of nutrient concentrations in the organs occurring during the life cycle are described in relation to physiological function.

Additional Information: | The concentrations (per cent oven-dry material) of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium in the different organs of the Robusta banana plant, at various stages in the growth cycle are presented. The plants were sampled at sites with differing soil properties and where fertilizer practices varied. The pattern of nutrient concentrations was similar at all sites. The effect of the variability within sites of organ concentration on the choice of a diagnostic tissue is discussed. The changes of nutrient concentrations in the organs which take place during the life cycle are described in relation to physiological function. |
