Abstract
A wide range of sulfatic fertilizers has been developed but the worth of these plant nutrient sources has not been adequately assessed under tropical conditions. A pronounced trend away from sulfur-containing fertilizers is a major cause of the increasing incidence of sulfur deficiency. World reserves of S are adequate to meet anticipated demands well into the future. The problem seems to be insufficient use rather than too much use. No radical changes are expected in the sulfur fertilizers that will be used in the futurre. When fertilizer materials are assessed, account should be made of their total nutrient content to ensure proper comparison.
