Abstract
Four adult Malpura rams were used in a palatability trial in which 5 hays were offered daily to the rams in separate troughs in the same pen. After 15 days the hay eaten most was removed and the sheep had free choice of the remaining 4. The process was repeated until only one hay was offered. Guinea grass hay (Panicum maximum) was most palatable, followed by anjan (Cenchrus ciliaris), Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum), baru (Sorghum halepense) and bajra (Pennisetum tyhoides) in that order. The first 3 were suitable as maintenance fodders but the rams lost weight when given baru or bajra hay
