Abstract
A layer of 97.5 kg chopped sorghum stover, protein content 4.0%, was sprayed with 20 litres water containing 1 kg urea and 1.5 kg mineral mixture. After compression the process was repeated until the silo pit was full. Silage obtained after 1 month contained 80.1% DM (with crude protein 6.3, ether extract 0.8, fibre 39.3, N-free extract 45.6, ash 8.0, Ca 0.6 and P 0.12%. Haryana heifers and calves and buffalo calves given the silage for 60 days made moderate weight gains. The digestibility of fibre by Haryana calves was 63.6% and of other constituents 50.6 to 55.0%, N, P and Ca balances were +12.5, +1.2 and -1.4 g
