Abstract
Seeds of sorghum, pearl millet and maize were stored at ambient conditions in Coimbatore, in (a) moisture-pervious or (b) moisture-vapour-proof containers with or without seed treatments. With increasing length of storage the seed m.c. increased and viability decreased. The rate of deterioration of viability and increase of m.c. of the seeds stored in (a) were more than the seeds stored in (b). A significant negative correlation was observed between seed m.c. and viability indicating that reduction in viability during storage is mainly due to the increase in m.c.
