Abstract

A world sorghum collection was evaluated for resistance to Sitophilus zeamais Motsch., and the 50 most resistant entries were studied. Entries that retained glumes completely enclosing the seed were found to be nearly immune. Higher resistance was found among Indian entries than among African entries. Among several species and strains of Sitophilus tested, an Arkansas strain of the weevil produced the most progeny on the sorghums
