Abstract

Groups of 10 pairs of adults of Sitophilus oryzae (L.) were confined with 100 seeds from 10 varieties of sorghum. Three varieties (Co. 19, Co. 18 and Co. 4) from which less than 20 adult offspring emerged in 45 days were classed as resistant to attack. Varieties from which 20-35 and over 35 adults emerged were classed as susceptible and highly susceptible, respectively. Seed colour, seed weight and seed volume had no association with the numbers of adults that emerged, but seed hardness was negatively correlated with susceptibility
