Abstract

Observations on the life-history of 3 web-forming species of Lepidoptera that attack sorghum earheads after grain setting in Nagpur, India, are presented. Females of Cryptoblabes gnidiella (Mill.) Autoba silicula (Swinh.) (Eublemma silicula) and Nola analis (Wileman & West) (Celama analis) laid their eggs singly on the spikelets and grains of the earheads in the morning, evening and mid-day, respectively, following preoviposition periods of 20-24, 15-22 and 23-28 h. The egg, larval and pupal stages and adult male and female life-span lasted about 3-4, 9-10, 4-6, 3 and 5-6 days, respectively, for Cryptoblabes gnidiella, 4, 12-13, 12, 4-5 and 14-15 days for A. silicula, and 2-3, 15, 7-8, 3-4 and 8 days for N. analis. Brief descriptions of the life stages are given
