Abstract

In tests on the control of Atherigona soccata Rond. (varia soccata) in sorghum fields in the Indian State of Maharashtra with granules of phorate, disulfoton, dimethoate, aldicarb (Temik), carbofuran or Sevidol (a mixture of 8% carbaryl and 8% delta -BHC) applied in circles of 2.5 or 5 cm radius round the seeds, carbofuran at 2.5% toxicant/ha in circles of either size gave the best results, with the germinated plants showing the lowest number of dead-hearts. Phorate at 1.875 kg and disulfoton and aldicarb at 2.5% toxicant/ha in circles of either size also gave good control of A. soccata, but the remaining treatments were less effective
