Abstract
The total dry weight of roots per plant increased with increasing N levels. By 90 days, cultivar Swarna had a greater root weight than CSH-1, while CSH-1 had a greater proportion of roots in the lower soil layers. N application increased root weights in the lower depths, CSH-1 had a higher shoot/root ratio than Swarna, and N increased the ratio only in CSH-1. Ear weight and grain weight per ear responded to N more in CSH-1 than in Swarna.
