Abstract

Three levels of N (0, 60 and 120 kg/ha) and two levels of P (0 and 26 kg/ha) applied to sorghum 'CSH 1' showed that 60 kg N/ha over 'no nitrogen' increased the grain yield and the grain weight. 26 kg P/ha over 'no phosphorous' gave slightly greater increases in yield and weight. Application of P and N gave longer panicles, but had no effect on the number of primary branches and the number of whorls/panicle. The yield differences under N and P fertilization were due to the differences brought about by N and P in the number of grains/primary branch and hence through the number of grains/panicle.
